About Me
Prof. Adeyemi Abel Ajibesin holds PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He is currently a faculty member in the Department of Information Technology at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. His previous roles include Head of the Department of Software Engineering / Telecommunication & Wireless Technologies at the School of IT & Computing (SITC) at the American University of Nigeria. He also served as the founding Interim Dean of the School of Engineering, Interim Dean of SITC, and Director of the African Centre for ICT Innovation and Training. Additionally, he has held several visiting academic positions, including the Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology & Innovation in Kenya, University of Cape Town, South Africa, and research fellowship at Simon Fraser University in Canada. Dr. Ajibesin has over two decades of experience in academia, teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels, and has successfully supervised 19 MSc and 7 PhD students. He has published over 80 scholarly works, and 51 Scopus Indexed, including journal articles, conference proceedings, and books. His expertise as an international examiner spans 12 MSc and 5 PhD theses from various universities worldwide.
As an Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Risk and Contingency Management and Journal of Information Dynamics & Applications, he actively contributes to academic discourse. Furthermore, he frequently participates in international conferences and events as a reviewer, technical chair, keynote speaker, and principal investigator on numerous community and global projects. Beyond academia, Dr. Ajibesin has consulted for enterprises, governments, and the World Bank. His research focuses on wireless networks, frontier analysis, data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. His innovative achievements include two engineering patents and one copyrighted computing software. Dr. Ajibesin’s contributions to academia and leadership have earned him several accolades, such as the IEEE STEM Champion Award, the AUN Stallion Award, and recognition for Leadership and Meritorious Service. He has also secured research grants, including those from Google REU, Google exploreCSR, AIMS, SADTS, and IEEE. As a dedicated professional, he remains an active member of IEEE, EIA, the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Internet Society, reflecting his commitment to advancing technology and education.

1. IEEE Pre-University STEM (2025): Principal Investigator (PI) – Organized a comprehensive workshop titled “Empowering Girls’ Computing Future: Systemic Change for Gender Equity”. This project is in response to a call for proposals by the IEEE Pre-University STEM Portal Outreach. Grant amount: $1,000.00 USD
Expected Impact:
IEEE Pre-university STEM [2025] – 80 historically marginalized Secondary School Girls Science students and their teachers from Northeast Nigeria were motivated and empowered through a workshop titled "Empowering Girls’ Computing Future: Systemic Change for Gender Equity". Focused on promoting an inclusive environment in computing, the workshops offered mentorship, and skill-building activities. Participants were engaged in lectures, group discussions, and networking sessions, all aligned with a DEI-focused curriculum. The event also featured quiz competition and the free distribution of the book " Empowering Women's Computing Future: Systemic Change for Gender Equity", enroll the teachers on the Digital Equity Lab, and digital mentorship platform. Awards recognized outstanding female teachers and professionals, with certificates of participation provided to all attendees. The program was organized in collaboration IEEE Try Engineering, a university and 5 NGOs provided activities on DEI curriculum to foster an inclusive and supportive environment in computing and STEM education.

Google exploreCSR (2025): Principal Investigator (PI) – Implemented an initiative with the theme “Empowering Marginalized Female Students in Computing: An Inclusive Curriculum and Research Mentorship Initiative for North-East Nigeria”. This project builds on the previous Google exploreCSR initiative. Grant amount: $75,000.00 USD

Google exploreCSR (2024): Principal Investigator (PI) - Implemented an initiative with the theme “Computing Research for Queens (CR4Q)”, including a comprehensive workshop titled “Advancing Computing Research - Unraveling Data Science, Machine Learning Algorithms and Applications”. This project was in response to a call for proposals by Google exploreCSR (Computer Science Research) with the aim of increasing students’ pursuit computing research, especially for students historically marginalized in this field. $18,000.00 USD

4. Google Research (2024): Principal Investigator (PI) - Implemented a project that supports undergraduate research in Computer Science through Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. The project focused on Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. This project was in response to a call for proposals by Google Research for increasing student pursuit of computing research, especially for students that are historically marginalized in this field. $14,000.00 USD

- World Bank & Youth Empowerment and Social Support Operations (YESSO) (2018 - 2019) - A cloud-based data collection and cleaning project for the Social Safety Net (SSN) intervention project in Adamawa involved hosting a checklist, using hardware with customizable software, training supervisors, capturing and uploading data of identified poor and venerable households (PVHHs), cleaning data, storing and presenting data in Excel and STATA formats, conducting data validation, and providing reports with descriptions, analytical results, and summary.
- AJISAQ Limited. As a Principal Consultant and Co-founder - I led the development of innovative ideas such as Intelligent Cable Theft Prevention System (Patented), Dual-Purpose Smart Electronic Switch, Magic Switch (Patented), Efficient Guaranteed Automated Digital Ticketing System (Presently utilized by the Adamawa State Government), Smart Lamp for Rural Lighting, remotely operated generator switches, smart meters, non-invasive glucometers, smart agriculture and irrigation systems, Android-based smart home systems, and a driverless VuVuTi vehicle. The following are other activities carried out by the start-up:
- Consultancy Service Unit, Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH): I led a technical team in delivering a digital platform solution for transactions and management, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
- SEBORE International Farms Limited: Headed a technical team responsible for developing a digital platform solution for transaction, inventory, and vending system, streamlining operations.
- Adamawa State Agribusiness Support (ADAS) Programme: Guided a technical team in providing digital platform solutions to enhance the internally generated revenue (IGR) and establish a sustainable value chain in Adamawa State.
- Adamawa State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS): Spearheaded a technical team in developing a digital platform solution for efficient ticketing and revenue collection, optimizing revenue management processes.
- Adamawa State Government: Led a technical team in creating a digital platform solution for efficient revenue collection of fines during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring a streamlined and contactless process.
- Others include 3D Engineering Global Technologies Services Limited and Teasy International Company Limited.
